Cruelty-Free Campus Event 2 Product Review!
Here is a little sneak peek of what we will be handing out at our next event on October 23rd on the Terrace between 2 and 4PM! Come learn about how to be an animal-friendly shopper and support the act that would end cosmetics testing on animals in the United States. Samples are FREE but remember to get there quickly because we run out of them VERY QUICKLY!! Underlined words are hyperlinks.
1. Chapsticks
The Merry Hempsters Hemp Balm uses hemp seed oil and essential oils, making it smooth and very moisturizing. We have two scents, peppermint and lemon-lime. I have the lemon-lime one and it is very very lemony (which is great because I looove lemons!). - Elizabeth
This is a super moisturizing lip balm that comes in many many different flavors. Glides on very smoothly and smells great. A great plus is that the lip balms are made with vegan, organic, fair trade ingredients so you can use this knowing you're doing good by your lips AND the globe! - Rachel
We have three different types of makeup this time, a blush, foundation, and finishing powder from the brand Everyday Minerals. Mineral makeup is great for your skin because it allows it to breath and also provides a really natural finish. Everyday Minerals is great because they are cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and 100% vegan! Also, unlike many foundation brands, they have a great selection of shades for any skin tone and undertone. We were given packets of several different shades so the one in your bag may not be an exact match for you, but you can give it to a friend or just see what you think of the texture and feel of mineral makeup. -Elizabeth
3. Tata Harper Face Mask
Tata Harper is a very luxurious, natural and nontoxic skin care and makeup brand. The facemask sample that is in your bags is called the resurfacing mask. It comes out in a clear, gel-like consistency with tiny gold flecks and smells wonderfully like roses. I left it on for about 25 minutes and when I rinsed it off my skin felt brighter and softer. Additionally, inside the enveloped that the mask comes in is a code for 10% off your total purchase on their website (act fast though because the offer expires November 11th). -Elizabeth
4. Ion Hair Masks
Ion is a cruelty-free hair care brand that in hair color. We have two different product samples from them, each bag having one or the other. The first one is the Repair Solutions mask for dry, damaged hair. I use this in the shower after I shampoo and leave it on for about 3-5 minutes and it leaves my hair so silky and easy to brush through. Plus it smells like vanilla! The other mask is the Color Defense After-Color Sealer, which should be used after coloring your hair to protect and prolong the life of your new hair color. I don’t color my hair so I haven’t tried it but if it’s as good as the Repair Solutions mask, it must be great! -Elizabeth
5. Brochure for Light Mountain Hair Color
Light Mountain sells great, effective hair henna in a wide variety of customizable colors. Even covers up grey hair really well (I have family members who use this to color grey hair instead of using traditional hair dye and it works really really well). Another nice thing is that henna gives your hair a deep conditioning instead of leaving it dry and brittle like regular hair dye. Very affordable as well. -Rachel
6. Coupon for $3 off Method detergent
Method is a great company in general so I was really excited to try their new detergent. All of their packaging is made from recycled plastic AND recovered ocean plastic and they use mostly biodegradable ingredients. The new detergent comes in five different scents and I got the ginger mango one (orange color), which smells absolutely amazing. It's a pretty big bottle so it will last you a while and with the $3 off coupon you get significant savings. Available at Target. -Rachel
7. Coupon for $2 off any Certain Dri product
Certain Dri is one of the few cruelty-free deodorants and it works VERY well. Definitely comes in handy at the beginning and end of the school year since we live in a mouth and summer can be rough. Be sure to read the directions because it is technically prescription strength and therefore does not need to be used every single day. Very affordable and available at Target. -Rachel
8. Coupon for 15% off your entire online Vapour Organic Beauty purchase
Vapour is cruelty-free AND very focused on being environment-friendly. YAY! Their products like their Atmosphere Luminous Foundation, Siren Lipstick, Cheek Stain and others also make regular appearances in Allure magazine. The coupon is good for 48 hours starting at midnight on October 23. We are only handing out the code (which they made just for our event!) at the event so make sure to stop by! -Rachel

9. Maxim Tampons
Tampon ingredients themselves are not usually tested on animals BUT companies that own Tampax and other common brands conduct a lot of animal testing. Maxim is both cruelty-free AND organic, made with chlorine-free organic cotton. They make tampons of multiple sizes both with and without applicators so you can use whichever kind you prefer. The baggie comes with two tampons, one with an applicator and one without. -Rachel
10. Clear Conscience Contact Solution
Clear Conscience is a small company located in Arlington, VA that may be the only producers of cruelty-free contact lens solution on the market. Their multipurpose solution is FDA approved and 10% of the proceeds are donated to non-profit animal welfare organizations. This isn’t in the bags but if you wear contacts and use contact lens solution then let us know and we will happily give you a bottle! -Elizabeth
