Cruelty-Free Campus Event 1 Products
We had some really great companies contribute to this first event, which is so encouraging! Here are our thoughts on the products we were able to distribute (we weren't able to try every single one due to limited supplies so a couple of the products are not reviewed but we talked about something from every company):
1. LUSH
I love Juicy Shampoo: This is a great clarifying shampoo and I am so glad that we were able to get it out to some of you. It smells great and leaves my hair feeling light and extra clean (but not dried out, which can be a problem with clarifying shampoos). It's a product I want to try and incorporate into my regular hair care routine to get rid of product buildup, maybe once or twice a week. -Rachel
American Cream Conditioner: Very light weight, probably best for normal to oily hair. The smell is unreal. Like strawberry shortcake and it lasts all day and when I use it I find myself smelling my hair all the time. -Elizabeth
Ocean Salt Face and Body Scrub: I haven't had the chance to try it because literally every time I go it's sold out because it is SO popular. Definitely on my to-try list though. -Elizabeth
Daddy-O Shampoo: Has a wonderful smell and the purple color is meant to offset the brassy tones in dye-blonde hair to increase vibrance. I can't attest to how well that works because my hair is naturally blonde and not dyed but it does leave your hair very shiny and volumized. -Elizabeth
2. Alaffia Everyday
Authentic African Black Soap: Generally, I am pretty skeptical of all-in-one products and tend to avoid them. I had never tried black soap before and I definitely had my doubts. However, I was pleasantly surprised by this one. I used this stuff in my hair and on my body with a loofa and it worked great as both body wash and shampoo. My hair stayed grease-free for the next two days. The subtle citrus smell is also a plus. -Rachel
Everyday Shea Lavender Body Wash: They have a wide array of scents so there are lots of options but I love lavender and it smells great all day. Doesn't leave a sticky, soapy residue on your skin and really does the job. Also, a little goes a long way - I have the full size bottle and it's a ton of product for $10. I got mine at Whole Foods. -Elizabeth
3. Beauty Without Cruelty
This BWC conditioner is an all-around awesome product, which Elizabeth has already raved about in her post on her favorite hair-care products so head that way for more details.
4. Eco-Dent
Tooth Powder: Tooth powder is definitely something to get used to and a little harder to use than regular tooth paste BUT this stuff still works super well and left my teeth feeling super clean. Kind of a strange taste but you can rinse that right out with their mouth wash! You can also try their other flavors (they even have a strawberry one made for kids but I might try it myself). -Rachel
Mouth Wash: Definitely nice to use after the tooth powder. Left my mouth with the familiar minty fresh post-brushing feeling. I found that this had a hint of licorice in it (not my favorite flavor) which was a bit shocking but my teeth feel super clean after using the Eco-Dent teeth cleaning system! Overall, these are two solid products. I will definitely look into their other stuff. -Rachel
5. Acure
We got a coupon from them so there isn't a specific product to review, but we have tried their stuff and they are a great company! Their volume shampoo is VERY volumizing and gives your hair lots of body. I have also heard really good things about their skincare solutions. -Rachel
5. Paula's Choice
Anti-Redness Exfoliating Solution: This stuff is pretty awesome. I have been looking for a cruelty-free toner for a while and this stuff is great. Some people with particularly sensitive skin say that it can be drying but most people absolutely love this solution. Paula's Choice is also just a great company so check out their other stuff (not everything on their website is cruelty-free but everything BY Paula's Choice is). -Rachel
